The birth place of Andreas Halkiopoulos (also Chalkiopoulos) is a mystery. Family has long maintained that he came from the Ionian Island of Cephalonia (Kefalinia). While birth records exist for that island, one must know the name of the village and/or church in order to find the information. He died in the 1930s, and I have no paperwork that provides a specific birthplace for him. Cephalonia is listed on birth documents of his children. Santorini (Thira), however, is mentioned on his wife's Greek Passport. I also know from his son, who is deceased, that the family owned land from a long time ago in Crete. He returned to Crete, researched the land records and found that squatters had claimed the property years ago. All this expands the possible location of the actual birth of Andreas Halkiopoulos.
Andreas' parents were Haralambos and Assymina Halkiopoulos. Andreas was born about 1889. He went to school in Europe somewhere and became a mechanic and went to Alexandria Egypt to introduce some of the first automobilies in Egypt.
